№ 03 — Cyprus & Overseas

At home in Kent.
At home in Cyprus.

For matters that cross the United Kingdom and another jurisdiction — chiefly Cyprus, where the practice holds long-standing commercial relationships and works alongside trusted local advisers. Property, hospitality, tenancies and contracts, conducted with the same care abroad as at home.

A large stone building lit by warm golden light — solidity and structure abroad.

Pl. III  ·  Of structure

§ 01 — In Cyprus

Matters we take in Cyprus.

i.

Property & Real Estate

Acquisition, sale, lease and management of commercial and residential property in Cyprus — sourced through local relationships and held to the same standard of diligence as a transaction in the United Kingdom.

ii.

Hospitality & Hotels

Restaurants, cafés and hotels — operation, contracts, licensing and management. Equally, advisory on the purchase or sale of Cypriot hospitality businesses.

iii.

Tenancies & Leases

Commercial and residential tenancies negotiated, restructured, renewed or terminated — for landlords and for tenants on the island.

iv.

Contracts & Negotiation

Commercial contracts — drawn, reviewed, negotiated. Where wanted, conducted on the company's behalf with Cypriot counterparties so principals need not.

v.

Trading Businesses

Sourcing, valuation, sale and acquisition of trading concerns in Cyprus — brokered in confidence, completed without alarming staff or counterparties.

vi.

Sensitive Legal Matters

Disputes, partnership breakdowns and other contested matters across borders — with referral to Cypriot counsel of long acquaintance where formal instruction is required.

§ 02 — How we work abroad

Local advisers — steady hand.

Distance does not excuse poor counsel. We work as we do at home — slowly, quietly, and with people we have known a long time.

  1. i

    Local relationships

Cypriot solicitors, surveyors, accountants and operators known to the practice over many years — brought in where the matter requires their licence or their local knowledge.

  2. ii

    On the ground when needed

Where a matter calls for it, we travel — to walk the property, meet the counterparty, or sit through the negotiation in person. Not every matter does; we do not bill for the journey lightly.

  3. iii

    One practitioner, one file

Mr Petrides holds the file from first conversation to completion. No handover between desks; no losing the thread between Kent and the island.

§ 03 — Beyond Cyprus

Other jurisdictions.

Cyprus is where the practice is most active overseas, but it is not the only place we act. We take instruction on cross-border matters elsewhere — most often where a client's interests sit partly in the United Kingdom and partly in another jurisdiction — and engage suitable local counsel as the matter requires.

We decline matters where we cannot find the right local hands. Honesty about what we can and cannot do is part of the practice.

§ 04 — On the matter of practice

A matter in Cyprus deserves the same care as a matter in Kent — not less, and not more.
